SACRAMENTO, CA (May 13, 2015) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Cary G. Palmer and James T. Jones have been elevated to Managing Shareholder and Litigation Manager, respectively, of the firm’s Sacramento office, succeeding David S. Bradshaw and Michael J. Christian who have stepped down to focus on their expanding caseloads and client development initiatives.
“Cary and James are natural choices to step up to these leadership positions,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino. “Both have continually demonstrated great skill and talent throughout their tenures at Jackson Lewis and we are confident the office will continue to thrive under their guidance.”
“Under David’s management, our Sacramento office developed an excellent reputation for high quality representation of employers in labor and employment matters, and we thank him for his good judgment, steady leadership and many contributions to the office and to the firm,” continued Cino. “Cary has been instrumental in the growth of our class action practice in California, and we are excited to see how he will grow the office after benefitting from David’s mentorship.”
Mr. Palmer, who serves as Jackson Lewis’ California Wage and Hour Coordinator, has extensive experience in all aspects of class action litigation, including proactive and preventive strategies, budgeting, state-wide defense efforts, class-wide discovery, arbitrations, mediations, exposure analyses, class certification, investigations, depositions and working with experts. He has handled more than 100 class actions during the past 15 years in cases involving many different wage and hour issues, including alleged misclassification of employees (executive, administrative, professional, computer software, and inside/outside sales exemptions), independent contractors, vacation, sick leave and paid time off, unpaid wages, bonuses, commissions, off-the-clock work, meal and rest periods, recordkeeping, wage statements, business expenses, dress and grooming, and suitable seating. He also regularly defends management in litigation involving wrongful termination, reductions in force, discrimination, harassment, breach of contract, and other labor and employment-related actions.
Mr. Palmer, who is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of California, received his B.S, cum laude, from the Brigham Young University, Marriott School of Management, and his J.D. from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific.
Mr. Jones’ practice includes providing advice and counsel to private and public sector employers on work-related issues and litigating employment matters before state and federal courts and governmental agencies. He has over two decades of employment law experience and expertise on such topics as wrongful termination claims (ADA, FEHA, ADEA, Title VII and public policy), wage-hour issues, Business and Professions Code section 17200 and workers’ compensation section 132a claims, workplace restraining orders, collective bargaining agreements, union elections, campaigns, strike counseling and unfair labor practice charges.
Mr. Jones also develops and presents training sessions and seminars for management and non-supervisory employees on a variety of topics, including harassment, discrimination, and retaliation prevention, diversity, and workplace violence prevention. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis in 2005, Mr. Jones was senior counsel at a large, international law firm, and also served as a Deputy District Attorney for the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.
