Anne M. Bensky
Anne (Andie) Bensky is of counsel in the Madison, Wisconsin office of Jackson Lewis, P.C. She partners with clients to understand their business goals, provide preventative advice and counseling and minimize legal risk. She counsels employers on personnel matters, navigating employee hiring, religious and disability accommodations, employee engagement and discipline, and separation.
Andie supports clients through litigation and sensitive employment relationships allowing employers to focus on running their businesses. She represents public and private sector employers in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies in defense of claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities and Rehabilitation Acts, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act, and Title IX of the Education Amendments. Her public sector work includes cases brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 for alleged violations of the First, Fourth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, and the Wisconsin Public Records Law.
Andie understands the employment challenges that regulated health care facilities must navigate to ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Before coming to Jackson Lewis, Andie served as the deputy chief legal counsel for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. In that role, she provided advice and counsel to the agency’s four mental health institutions and three centers for people with developmental disabilities on matters related to employment relationships and employee discipline and advised the Office of the Inspector General in conducting audits and investigations.
As a former assistant attorney general at the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Andie has represented state agencies, the Legislature, the Governor’s Office, and the University of Wisconsin System schools and served as lead trial counsel in cases involving allegations of race, age, and disability discrimination, sexual harassment, and alleged constitutional violations. Andie understands governmental and educational institution business operations and workforce challenges. She leverages that knowledge and experience to counsel clients through sensitive employment challenges and harassment investigations and assists clients in developing accommodations that enable employees to work while meeting the unique needs of business operations that manage a 24/7 workforce, including health care facilities, prisons, and law enforcement agencies.
