Tyla A. Swinton
Tyla A. Swinton is an associate in the Long Island, New York, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice focuses on preparing affirmative action plans for federal contractors and defending federal contractors in audits by the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP).
Tyla’s interest in the law began from an early age after hearing her grandfather’s and mother’s stories about their experiences as a detective and police officer respectively. Since hearing those tales at her grandmother’s dinner table as a child, Tyla’s passion for helping others and playing an active role in diversity and inclusion efforts has only continued to grow.
As a member of the Affirmative Action, OFCCP and Government Contract Compliance group, she assists federal contractors in preparing and implementing affirmative action plans and developing practical approaches to compliance. Tyla also helps employers prepare government reports, including, EEO-1 Reports, VETS-4212, and CA Pay Data Reporting. In addition, she defends federal contractors when they face allegations of discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, disability, and veteran status in connection with audits by the OFCCP.
While in law school, Tyla served as the president of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), a class representative in the Student Bar Association, a member of the Law & Equity Committee, and captain of the BLSA Mock Trial Team. Tyla was also the co-founder of and participant in a mentoring initiative that paired law students with local high school students to provide academic and personal support.
