Pedro Torres-Díaz Sworn in as HNBA National President

MIAMI, FL (September 15, 2016) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, congratulates Principal Pedro Jaime Torres-Díaz, who was sworn in as National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) during the 41st HNBA Annual Convention in Chicago.  Prior to his election as President-Elect in 2015, Mr.  Torres-Díaz served on the Board of Governors of the HNBA for several years, both as an Affiliate Representative and also as General Counsel to the Association between 2011 and 2013.  He also co-chaired the Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section.

“Pedro’s proven track record of leadership both at Jackson Lewis and within the HNBA make him uniquely qualified for this position, and we congratulate him on this significant and well-deserved appointment,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino.  “We look forward to seeing how the Association will continue to grow and strengthen under his leadership.”

“The theme for my presidency will be, ‘Strengthening the Future of Law,’ said Mr.  Torres-Díaz. “We are in dire need of more Latinos and Latinas who will rise and fight for greater diversity in the private and public sector and for fair and equal treatment under our laws. With the HNBA’s already strong foundation, we can work to ensure that every Latino and Latina lawyer joins our familia as members, and that those members -- whether solo practitioners, in house counsel, law firm attorneys, government lawyers, members of the judiciary, or law students -- achieve the success they have worked so hard for.”

Mr. Torres-Díaz is a Principal in the Miami and San Juan offices of Jackson Lewis.  His practice focuses on employment discrimination and wage and hour counseling and litigation exclusively on behalf of employers. He has extensive trial experience before both federal and local courts and administrative forums in Puerto Rico and Florida. He has also successfully defended employers in all types of administrative hearings before local and federal agencies.

During his undergraduate studies, he completed an Internship in European Business in the Ecòle Europèenne des Affaires in Paris, France. After completion of his undergraduate studies, Mr. Torres-Díaz worked as a fiscal analyst in the corporate headquarters of McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. After his graduation from law school, he clerked for Honorable Aida M. Delgado-Colón, United States Magistrate-Judge (now Chief United States District Judge), at the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
