Ruthie White Named Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis' Houston Office

HOUSTON, TX (February 22, 2013) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fasted-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Ruthie N. White will assume the role of Houston office Managing Partner, succeeding Teresa S. Valderrama.  Ms. Valderrama will continue in her role as Partner and Litigation Manager of the Houston office.

“We are confident in Ruthie’s ability to step right into her leadership role and continue Teresa’s great work in strengthening our presence and reputation in the region,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino.  “Although relatively new to the firm, Ruthie easily earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike with her commitment to legal excellence and client service. We are excited to see how the Houston office will continue to flourish under her management.”

With more than two decades of legal practice and business experience, Ms. White has a track record of obtaining favorable decisions in discrimination, harassment and retaliation cases, as well as defending clients in the energy, banking, technology, retail, health care and construction sectors.

Ms. White regularly advises employers on a wide range of labor and employment issues.  These include drafting employment policies and procedures, investigating alleged employee misconduct, implementing disciplinary and job performance procedures, and developing selection criteria for reductions in force.  She has presented numerous specially-tailored employment law seminars for supervisors and managers geared to meet the needs of individual clients.

Ms. White has served as an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law and on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Association of Women Attorneys, the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation, and the Fort Bend County Women’s Center.  She is a founder of The Downtown Group, a 200-member networking organization of African-American female lawyers, and contributes pro bono legal services to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program.

Ms. White earned her J.D. from South Texas College of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1997.  She received the 2006 South Texas College of Law Mamie Moore Proctor Trailblazer Award for being the first African-American female on the school’s law review. Ms. White is a frequent speaker at Continuing Legal Education seminars hosted by law schools and bar associations across Texas.  Ms. White is admitted to practice in Texas (all districts) as well as the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.  She is a member of the Labor & Employment Sections of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association and National Bar Association.
