Joan Ackerstein Named Jackson Lewis LLP's National Director of Litigation

WHITE PLAINS, NY (January 24, 2013) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Boston Partner Joan Ackerstein will serve as the firm’s National Director of Litigation.  Ms. Ackerstein succeeds Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino, who was the National Director of Litigation since 2006.

“We believe Joan is an excellent choice for the firm’s next National Director of Litigation,” said Mr. Cino.  “Having served in that role previously, I understand what is involved, and I have full confidence in Joan’s ability to coordinate and monitor our litigation matters with immense skill and dedication.  Joan’s talent as a litigator, her experience managing the Boston office’s litigation practice for many years, and her tenure on the firm’s Management Committee make her well-qualified for this position.”

“I am honored to take on this wonderful professional opportunity,” said Ackerstein.  “After working closely with Vincent over the years, I feel well prepared for my new role. Our litigation practice already has been well recognized, including being named both a “Powerhouse” and “Standout” in employment litigation by BTI Consulting Group in its Litigation Outlook Report 2013.  I look forward to working with our litigators to ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality representation and the incomparable client service which are hallmarks of our firm.”

In addition to her new national responsibilities, Ms. Ackerstein will continue to counsel employers on the full range of workplace issues and litigate employment claims on their behalf.  Ms. Ackerstein has substantial trial experience, including service as an Assistant United States Attorney in Boston from 1983 to 1986, prior to joining Jackson Lewis in 1987.  She began her career at the Boston firm Goodwin, Procter & Hoar.

Ms. Ackerstein has been recognized for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA and, since 2004, selected for inclusion in Massachusetts Super Lawyers, including being named one of the Top 50 Women Massachusetts Super Lawyers in 2009.  Ms. Ackerstein is a graduate of The Georgetown University Law Center, where she was an editor of The Georgetown Law Journal, and of the University of Vermont, where she received a B.A., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  She also holds a Master of Urban Affairs degree from Boston University.
