LOS ANGELES, CA (September 5, 2012) – Jackson Lewis, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Los Angeles Partner Nicky Jatana is a recipient of the Transformative Leadership Awards West program’s ‘Sharing the Power’ award. Ms. Jatana shares this honor with Megan Belcher, Vice President and Chief Employment Counsel at ConAgra Foods.
The Transformative Leadership Awards West program, which is presented by InsideCounsel magazine, honors West Coast General Counsel and law firm Partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in corporate law. The awards also recognize an individual’s career achievements and commitment to leadership.
Ms. Jatana was nominated for the award by co-recipient, Megan Belcher. Regarding her nomination of Ms. Jatana, Ms. Belcher noted that Ms. Jatana’s “legal prowess and excellent client service” drove the dramatic growth of ConAgra Foods’ business with Jackson Lewis in a short time. These qualities also made Ms. Jatana a go-to asset for Ms. Belcher’s team of labor, employment, and benefits lawyers.
Ms. Belcher referred to Ms. Jatana as a trusted advisor, whose leadership helped Jackson Lewis become a principal provider of legal services in a number of specific subject matter areas, and one of the department’s three strategic firms for labor, employment, and benefits matters.
“Sharing this award with Megan illustrates the importance of creating longstanding partnerships with our clients,” said Jatana. “This is a value that Jackson Lewis has instilled into all of its attorneys, and one that I believe has been a key factor behind my success in and enjoyment of the practice of law.”
Jatana's award comes on the heels of Jackson Lewis' recent certification as a “Gold Standard Firm” by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum and impressive third-place standing on MultiCultural Law magazine’s “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” list, which ranks the nation’s top firms for excellence in promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.
"The firm has always made the advancement and retention of female attorneys a top priority, and I am proud to further our efforts to expand the scope of opportunities for women in the legal community," added Jatana.
Ms. Jatana’s practice focuses on employment litigation, as well as on advising employers regarding daily workplace issues. She has litigated numerous wage and hour class and multi-plaintiff actions, as well as cases involving wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, breach of contract, and other employment-related matters, and has trial experience. Ms. Jatana represents employers in the retail, restaurant, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, transportation and banking industries, among others. She conducts training seminars and frequently speaks publicly on a multitude of employment law topics.
Ms. Jatana currently serves as co-chair of Jackson Lewis’ Asian American Resource Group and actively participates in the firm’s Women’s Interest Network. In addition, she is a member of the National South Asian Bar Association and the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California, where she served on the Executive Board as Litigation Committee Chair from 2009 to 2011.
