Washington Attorneys Named 'Legal Elite'

WASHINGTON, D.C., (October 26, 2010) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Weldon H. Latham and John M. Remy, Partners in the Washington, D.C. Region office of Jackson Lewis LLP, have been selected as winners of SmartCEO magazine’s “Legal Elite Reader’s Poll.”

Recently, SmartCEO asked its readers to choose top go-to business attorneys in the Greater Washington Area.  Mr. Latham and Mr. Remy were among those cited most often in the survey. As a result, they will be featured along with other “Legal Elite” winners in the December 2010 SmartCEO issue.

Mr. Remy is Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis’ Washington, D.C. Region office. His practice focuses exclusively on labor and employment litigation and counseling, representing employers in federal and state court covering a wide range of statutes and subjects, including federal and state anti-discrimination laws, whistleblower and wrongful termination claims, wage and hour disputes, covenants not to compete, breach of duty of loyalty, and breach of contract. 

As part of his counseling practice, Mr. Remy provides daily advice and training to supervisors and senior management to avoid litigation.  His traditional labor experience includes giving legal advice during union organizing campaigns, handling representation cases and petitions, unfair labor practice cases, negotiations and labor arbitrations. 

Mr. Remy has been named a “Rising Star” by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine and one of the D.C. area’s “go to” SmartLawyers.

Mr. Latham is a senior Partner in the Washington, DC Region office of Jackson Lewis LLP and the Chair of the Firm’s Corporate Diversity Counseling Group.  He represents Fortune 200 companies, major government agencies, and other complex organizations in a variety of legal matters, including corporate diversity counseling, employment law, and government relations.

Mr. Latham advises clients in crisis management and diversity representation, complex civil rights reviews and employment law audits, as well as dispute resolution, investigations and defense of class action lawsuits involving allegations of race, gender, and age discrimination and harassment law. He also directs confidential litigation assessments, corporate diversity compliance reviews, internal legal vulnerability assessments, and assists clients in developing "best practice," benchmarking, and diversity enhancement action plans.

Mr. Latham is a columnist for DiversityInc and previously Minority Business Entrepreneur magazines, as well as a frequent commentator in The Washington Post.  Among his numerous professional and community activities, Mr. Latham serves as Counsel to the PepsiCo Global Diversity and Inclusion Governance Council and the Omnicom Group Diversity Advisory Committee; a member of the American Employment Law Council, and the Economic Club of Washington.  He was previously the National Co-Chair, Hillary Clinton Campaign, and Chair, Deloitte External Diversity Advisory Board.  He is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who Among African Americans and Who’s Who In America.
