FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jackson Lewis Hosts Webinar, Offers Special Report on New Family and Medical Leave Act Regulations Taking Effect January 16, 2009

Addresses steps that employers should take now to prepare for the changes to the FMLA; Employers expected to face significant compliance responsibilities in the coming year

New York (December 2, 2008) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, announced today that it is hosting a webinar to help employers prepare for the revised Family and Medical Leave Act regulations that take effect January 16, 2009.

In addition to the webinar, Jackson Lewis also announced the availability of an accompanying 25-page special report by its Disability, Leave & Health Management Practice Group that provides a reader-friendly road map of the major FMLA changes.

“Navigating through the FMLA developments may prove to be one of the most challenging workplace developments in 2009,” stated Frank Alvarez, a recognized workplace law expert and partner with Jackson Lewis.  “There are no short cuts in administering FMLA leave in a qualified and effective manner.”

In the 90-minute webinar, which is available around the clock, Jackson Lewis attorneys with nationally recognized expertise in matters involving the FMLA address the substantial changes to the regulations that were released by the U.S. Department of Labor in November.

“Employers need to start preparing now for the substantial changes to the FMLA, which were detailed in more than 750 pages by the Labor Department, as well as for potential changes that may be made in the future,” stated Mr. Alvarez.  “Thankfully, these much anticipated FMLA Regulations arm employers with tools to combat absence management issues.  To leverage these opportunities, however, employers will need to update their FMLA policies and forms and communicate more effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees.”

The free webinar addresses revised regulations affecting areas including: •       Employer General Notice Obligations •       Employer Specific Notice Obligations •       Employee Notice Obligations •       Medical Certifications •       Intermittent Leave •       Clarification of Other Employee Leave Entitlements •       Coverage Issues •       Military Family Leave •       Waivers

In addition, Jackson Lewis attorneys discuss the steps that employers should take now to address the changes to the FMLA as well as potential future changes to the Act.

The report addresses topics including coverage issues, employee leave entitlements, employer notice obligations, medical certification forms and processes and military family leave provisions. The report also includes new Department of Labor FMLA Certification and Designation Forms.
