New Partner and Of Counsel Join Expanding Birmingham Office of Jackson Lewis LLP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., (September 9, 2008) – Jackson Lewis LLP -- one of the country’s largest and fastest growing workplace law firms – continues to grow its Birmingham presence, this time by adding a 17 year veteran of the nationally known plaintiff employment litigation law firm of Wiggins, Childs, Quinn & Pantazis.  Joseph H. Calvin III has joined the firm’s Birmingham, Alabama office as a partner and will bring the experience and perspective of a plaintiff to Jackson Lewis’ clients to help them manage their litigation risks.  Also joining the Birmingham office as Of Counsel is Yvonne Norris Beshany, formerly the principal partner and founder of Beshany Law Group in Birmingham.

An AV-rated attorney and frequent speaker on employment law issues, Mr. Calvin’s litigation experience is significant, with his practice having been focused on employment matters, including alternative dispute resolution and class action defense. He has developed a wide range of expertise in the field which includes employment discrimination; performance counseling; employment contracts; wage and hour law; non-competition, non-solicitation & confidentiality agreements; personnel policies/employee handbooks; employee termination; sexual harassment; wrongful discharge; employee and manager training; mass layoffs and reductions in force; negotiation and preparation of employment agreements and exit packages on behalf of senior executives. He represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as before local, state and federal agencies.

Mr. Calvin is a member of the American Bar Association (Sections on: Litigation; Labor and Employment); Alabama State Bar; Birmingham Bar Association; Tennessee Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. He is a former group chairman of the Birmingham Bar’s Grievance Committee and former member of the Alabama State Bar’s Professional Rules Committee. He is admitted to practice law in the states of Alabama and Tennessee.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Davidson College and is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. Following graduation, Mr. Calvin served as a law clerk to the Hon. E.B. Haltom, Jr., U.S. District Court Judge.

Ms. Beshany has practiced all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts on the trial and appellate levels, obtaining broad experience in the areas of commercial and consumer finance, banking, utility, insurance litigation and insurance coverage disputes, as well as general litigation matters. She is also experienced in intellectual property disputes, including non-competition litigation, domain name disputes, and other Internet-related matters. Additionally, she works with clients to resolve disputes outside the judicial arena through settlement, mediation and arbitration.

Ms. Beshany has written and co-authored numerous articles for a variety of legal publications. She is admitted to practice law in the states of Alabama, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee and in a number of U.S. District Courts, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Federal Courts.

She is a member of the American Bar Association (Litigation and Women Rainmakers committee) and a member of the Birmingham Bar Association (Birmingham Bar Bulletin committee). She graduated magna cum laude from Samford University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and received her Juris Doctorate cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law.
