LOS ANGELES (July 16, 2008) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest growing workplace law firms, has hired Cynthia Emry as Of Counsel in its Los Angeles office. She was previously Of Counsel with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. The addition comes on the heels of the recent hiring of James Michalski as a partner and follows a nationwide trend of rapid growth for Jackson Lewis LLP.
Ms. Emry specializes in the areas of Litigation and Litigation Avoidance within the labor and employment law sector. She represents employers, including public entities, and individuals in a wide range of employment matters, including employment discrimination actions, misappropriation of trade secrets actions, and wage and hour class actions.
“Cynthia is a dedicated practitioner who brings with her successful trial experience as well as a solid record of advising clients on complex litigation matters,” says Lawrence H. Stone, managing partner of Jackson Lewis’s Los Angeles office.
Ms. Emry has significant trial experience and extensive experience with mediation, arbitration, and hearings before administrative agencies. She is admitted to the State Bar of California, United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern and Central Districts, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She regularly handles employment cases at all levels of state and federal court, as well as before the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and related state administrative agencies. She has extensive experience in providing employment counseling and advice to employers on various employment issues, including workplace investigations, disciplinary matters, leaves of absence, severance agreements, and policy and procedure review. She also teaches seminars to human resources professionals on various employment-related issues, and conducts sexual harassment prevention training.
Ms. Emry is a member of the Labor and Employment Law section of the California State Bar Association. She is a board member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association Work/Life Balance Committee and on the Board of Directors for the Center for Children Who Stutter at California State University, Fullerton.
She received her J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1992 from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she served as Literary Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review. She received her B.A. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1986.
