As the resurgent labor movement continues organizing in new arenas such as coffee shops and tech companies, we expect to see them get more active on campus too. Current case law and General Counsel Memoranda from the National Labor Relations Board provide fertile ground for unions to organize student athletes, graduate (and undergraduate) teaching and research assistants and contingent faculty. An annual Gallup poll on attitudes towards unions found 68% of Americans have a favorable view of unions.  This figure jumps to 77% among people ages 18-34. Join Jackson Lewis P.C. attorneys as we discuss:

  • current organizing trends
  • the NLRB’s position on the eligibility of student athletes and student assistants to unionize
  • steps schools can take to assess and mitigate their vulnerability to union organizing among faculty and students
