Three Attorneys Join Portsmouth Office of Jackson Lewis LLP

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (May 3, 2010) – Jackson Lewis LLP (www.jacksonlewis.com), one of the country’s largest and fastest growing workplace law firms, announced that three new attorneys have joined its Portsmouth, N.H. office.  Thomas J. Flygare, Daniel P. Schwarz and Thomas M. Closson were each formerly principals in the Exeter law firm Flygare, Schwarz, Closson PLLC.

Joining Jackson Lewis as Of Counsel, Mr. Flygare is one of the first attorneys in New Hampshire to concentrate his practice in employment and labor law.  He regularly represents municipalities, counties and other political subdivisions in labor relations and negotiates collective bargaining agreements and represents clients in grievance procedures.  In addition to his public sector practice, Mr. Flygare represents private employers and universities in all facets of employment relations.

Prior to entering private practice in 1986, Mr. Flygare was Vice Chancellor and General Counsel of the University System of New Hampshire. He also worked at Harvard University and the U.S Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

Mr. Flygare is a Fellow of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and the Labor Law Section of the American Bar Association. He has a B.A. from St. Olaf College, an M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a J.D. from Boston University.

Mr. Schwarz, Partner, is a trial attorney with over 20 years of experience defending employers in state and federal court and in private arbitration proceedings. His practice includes advising private and public sector employers and educational institutions on all aspects of labor and employment law. Mr. Schwarz is an experienced mediator  and is adept at assisting employers in the resolution of employment disputes. He is adept at quickly assessing employment claims and recommending effective solutions. 

Mr. Schwarz serves as a court-appointed mediator for both the New Hampshire Superior Court system and the Federal District Court of New Hampshire.  He is a member of the New Hampshire, Maine and American Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice law in Maine, New Hampshire and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Mr. Schwarz received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his J.D. from Boston University Law School in 1985.

Mr. Closson, Partner, is an experienced trial attorney who has successfully defended employers and educational institutions in a wide variety of employment and discrimination cases in both state and federal courts. He works with employers throughout New Hampshire, assisting them with developing and maintaining sound employment practices and providing critical legal counsel when claims and problems arise.

Admitted to practice law in New Hampshire, Mr. Closson is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and the Labor Law Section of the American Bar Association. He frequently writes and speaks on issues of employment law and has served as a mediator for the New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights.

Mr. Closson earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D from Harvard University.

All three attorneys have been repeatedly listed in the Chambers USA legal guide as top employment law attorneys in New Hampshire.
