Tammy Baker Named Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis' Birmingham Office

BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 15, 2013) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Tammy L. Baker has assumed the role of Birmingham office Managing Partner, succeeding Thomas A. Davis.  Mr. Davis, in addition to serving as the Birmingham office’s liaison for client development, has assumed the role of Litigation Manager of the office.

Ms. Baker has experience in all aspects of workplace law, including multi-plaintiff, collective actions and class action litigation.  She regularly advises employers on complex issues, including compliance with the FMLA, ADA and other employment laws. Ms. Baker lectures frequently on employment-related topics, including at national conferences sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  She is also a frequent speaker at state and local SHRM meetings and conferences. 

Among her professional accolades, Ms. Baker was honored by Chambers USA as a “Leader in Her Field” for the last three years; the Birmingham Business Journal named her as “Best of the Bar” in 2011; she was named one of Birmingham’s Best Lawyers for the past two years; and she was selected for inclusion in Alabama Super Lawyers for the past three years.  She was also named one of the “Top Attorneys in Alabama.”  Ms. Baker also received recognition in the 2012 and 2013 editions of The Best Lawyers in America.  

Ms. Baker has served on the Birmingham YWCA’s Junior Board and currently works with the YWCA to provide pro bono legal assistance to victims of domestic violence.  She has also served as a pro bono mediator at the request of Northern District of Alabama judges.  

Ms. Baker obtained her law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law, where she was a recipient of the Dean M. Leigh Harrison Award (Top 5%); a member of Order of the Coif; a Hugo L. Black Scholar; and a member of the managing board of the Alabama Law Review.  Ms. Baker received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  

Following law school, Ms. Baker clerked for United States District Court Chief Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn.  She is admitted to the Alabama State Bar, the Mississippi State Bar, has served as a member of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals 2007 Judicial Conference Planning Committee, and currently serves on the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Federal Rules Committee.
