Susan M. Corcoran To Be Honored As A Pro Bono Partnership "Volunteer Of The Decade"

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (March 5, 2008) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Susan M. Corcoran, a partner in the firm’s White Plains office, will be the recipient of the Pro Bono Partnership’s Volunteer of the Decade Distinguished Service Award.

Ms. Corcoran will receive her award on March 13 as part of the Pro Bono Partnership’s 10th anniversary celebration. Ms. Corcoran, who has been volunteering with the organization since its inception, is one of several to receive the inaugural Volunteer of the Decade Distinguished Service Award. The Pro Bono Partnership awarded Ms. Corcoran with its 2003 Outstanding Volunteer Award.

“The Partnership admires Susan’s willingness to be available for clients in immediate need of counsel, which is a common occurrence when employment issues arise,” said Rick Hobish, Executive Director for the Pro Bono Partnership. “She has spoken at Partnership workshops and serves as a resource to the Partnership’s internal legal staff. Most of the organizations Susan has represented serve the needs of children and families.”

The Pro Bono Partnership is the leading provider of free business legal services, educational workshops and other legal resources to nonprofit community-based organizations located in Hartford and Fairfield County, CT; the lower New York Hudson Valley, including Westchester, Orange, Putnam and Rockland Counties; and New Jersey.  The Partnership assists nonprofit organizations serving poor or disadvantaged individuals and families, civic groups, arts organizations, and environmental or conservation groups; provides a wide range of opportunities for attorneys in corporations and law firms to work on rewarding pro bono business and transactional matters; and particularly focuses on engaging volunteers from corporate legal departments.

“As part of our ongoing pro bono initiatives, the firm’s White Plains, Stamford, Hartford and Morristown offices work closely with the Partnership to provide advice and training to its clients. We congratulate the Partnership on its 10th anniversary and are proud of Susan’s leadership in our pro bono initiatives,” said Patrick L. Vaccaro, firm-wide managing partner of Jackson Lewis.

Ms. Corcoran, an employment litigator who provides counsel on a variety of workplace law matters, has advised numerous Partnership clients on employment-related issues as well as provided training, counseling and preventative workplace advice.

Ms. Corcoran’s community outreach efforts extend beyond the Pro Bono Partnership. She is a board member for Family Services of Westchester; serves on the Council for SUNY Purchase; is a member of the New York, Connecticut, Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York and the Westchester Women’s Bar Association (WWBA), where she is currently co-chair of its Employment Law Committee.
