Ryan Harrison, Sr. Appointed to Blue Ribbon Bar Exam Commission

SACRAMENTO, CA  (July 19, 2021) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Ryan Harrison, Sr. has been appointed as a member of  the California Supreme Court’s Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the California Bar Exam. The Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the California Bar Exam will develop recommendations on whether to make changes to the California Bar Exam.

“I am proud and humbled to be joining the Commission,” said Ryan. “I look forward to combining my input with that of my colleagues as we determine whether to adopt alternative or additional testing or tools to administer the California Bar Exam.”

Ryan is an associate in the Sacramento office of Jackson Lewis where his practice focuses on defending employers in single plaintiff litigation matters in state and federal court, and at arbitration. Ryan has experience litigating labor disputes before the Public Employment Relations Board and litigating employee disciplinary matters and grievances in labor arbitration. He currently serves as an Executive Committee Member for the Public Law section of the California Lawyers Association. Ryan is also an experienced investigator, having conducted hundreds of neutral investigations for public and private sector employers regarding issues of unlawful discrimination, retaliation, conflicts of interest, embezzlement, and government corruption. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Council on Access and Fairness (COAF) for the State Bar of California. COAF effectuates the California Legislature’s statutory mandate that the Bar commit itself to increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Prior to his legal career, Ryan served as a dignitary protection law enforcement officer in the California State Senate, later returning to the institution as a policy consultant, and then becoming the principal internal investigator for the Senate Rules Committee during the height of the #MeToo movement.

The Commission will also consider whether the Bar Exam, or any of its parts, should be administered online and/or in-person. The first online Bar Exam was held in October 2020 and the next one is scheduled online for July 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission plans to issue its recommendations in early 2022.

Ryan earned his J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law; his M.S. from California State University, Sacramento; and his B.A. from the University of California, Davis.
