Prominent Miami Lawyer Joins Jackson Lewis LLP

Miami, FL (September 11, 2009) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest growing workplace law firms, has announced that Devand (Dave) A. Sukhdeo has joined the firm as a Partner in its Miami office and TerRance Q. Woodard has joined as an Associate. Formerly a partner with the Ogletree Deakins law firm, Mr. Sukhdeo is one of the region’s best known employment law attorneys.  He represents employers, ranging from small business to international corporations, in virtually every industry sector and is an accomplished practitioner in the full-range of employment, labor and benefits matters.

“Dave is widely considered as one of the best employment law attorneys in Miami,” said Tasos C. Paindiris, Managing Partner of the firm’s Miami office.  “He is a tremendously talented litigator and his experience and skill set are a perfect fit for Jackson Lewis clients.”

Prior to his tenure with Ogletree Deakins, Mr. Sukhdeo was a founding shareholder in Littler Mendelson’s Miami office, as well as a shareholder at Akerman Senterfitt.  He received a B.A. from Columbia University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law where he served as the associate editor for the Journal of Law and Social Change.  He has published numerous articles on various workplace law topics and frequently lectures before business and professional associations across the country.  He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Sections of both the Florida Bar and American Bar Associations.  Mr. Sukhdeo is also an active member of the Black Lawyer’s Association and the Caribbean Lawyer’s Association.

Mr. Woodard represents employers of all sizes in a broad cross section of industries, including logistics, hospitality, finance, retail, and restaurants. Mr. Woodard regularly handles simple, complex, and multi-party litigation and has significant litigation experience -- both federal and state court -- in the areas of unfair competition, employment discrimination, wage and hour, and employee leaves.

Mr. Woodard received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law where he was a Nelson Mandela Scholarship recipient and also the managing editor of the National Black Law Journal.  In addition, Mr. Woodard currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Tim Hardaway Foundation in Miami, a non-profit organization that addresses the health, educational and socio-economic needs of ethnically diverse, urban communities.

“We could not be more pleased to welcome Dave and TerRance to our Miami team and our firm,” said Patrick L. Vaccaro, firm-wide Managing Partner.  “Dave comes to us with a huge reputation not only as a skilled practitioner but as an accomplished client acquirer. We also know him to get very high grades for client acceptability and loyalty and one who shares our passion for putting client service first.  I am also pleased that Dave is an alumnus of my alma mater, NYU Law.”
