Phoenix Attorney Appointed to Arizona House of Representatives

PHOENIX, AZ (June 14, 2011) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Justin S. Pierce, Of Counsel in the firm’s Phoenix office, was recently appointed to the Arizona Legislature to serve out the term of Rep. Kirk Adams, R-Mesa, in Legislative District 19 by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.  Adams resigned in April to pursue a Congressional run.

Mr. Pierce, who has said he will focus his priorities on shrinking debt and the size of government, was selected by the Board of Supervisors from a list of three finalists named by the district's Republican precinct committeemen.  At his appointment he was joined by his father Gary Pierce, an Arizona Corporation Commissioner and a former state representative, along with several other family members.

“We could not be more proud of Justin,” said Amy J. Gittler, Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis’ Phoenix office.  “His appreciation of and devotion for local government and the community in which he serves has been evident during his time at Jackson Lewis, and I have no doubt he will be a valuable addition to the House as he carries out his term.”

At Jackson Lewis Mr. Pierce regularly represents employers in wrongful termination, harassment, and discrimination claims before various government agencies charged with investigating and prosecuting employment claims, such as the EEOC, U.S. Department of Labor, and the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, as well as in courts of various jurisdictions.  He has litigated cases in the Arizona Superior Court, the Arizona Court of Appeals, and Arizona Supreme Court, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.  He has also briefed and argued multiple cases at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition, Mr. Pierce has represented a variety of clients, including many public entities such as Arizona school districts, community college districts and municipalities, as the lead trial attorney in more than 20 cases before county, community college, and municipal personnel appeals boards.  He has also represented multiple local boards of the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System and has counseled those boards in relation to their legal duties as it relates to granting or denying disability pensions to members of the system.

Mr. Pierce received his B.S. in Accountancy from Arizona State University and his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center where he graduated with Honors.
