WHITE PLAINS, NY (May 16, 2018) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, was honored at the 2018 Spring Gala for LitWorld, a charitable organization strengthening children’s lives through the power of literacy and learning. The event was hosted on May 9, 2018, at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Jackson Lewis was selected as an honoree for its commitment to fundraising and awareness campaign efforts. To date, the firm has raised more than $270,000 for the thousands of children who take part in LitWorld’s literacy programs and initiatives.
Jackson Lewis began its LitWorld fundraising initiative in October 2016 as part of the firm’s ongoing charitable giving initiative. LitWorld founder Pam Allyn is the daughter of the late William Krupman, who served as Jackson Lewis Managing Principal from 1975 to 2006. Since 2007, Ms. Allyn and the LitWorld organization have served children across the U.S. and in more than 60 countries. Through the firm’s collaboration with LitWorld, Jackson Lewis attorneys and staff were able to help send more than 4,500 underprivileged elementary school children to LitCamps, where they will learn to read, write and develop important mentorships.
"I am very proud to accept this honor from LitWorld on behalf of the attorneys and staff at Jackson Lewis,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino. “Jackson Lewis’ commitment to LitWorld has allowed every single person within our firm to see how we can directly make a positive impact on our children and our communities. LitWorld’s programs have inspired children to create stories of their own. I hope that we all continue to acknowledge what we can do when we work together, and remember that each of us is empowered to make a positive impact on our world."
LitWorld’s mission is to foster resilience, hope and joy through the power of story. Since 2007, it has developed and launched the programs that stand today as the organization's core models: LitClubs, LitCamps and World Read Aloud Day. The LitClub model of in-depth, out-of-school self-empowerment and literacy programming has allowed us to bring our innovative methods to communities across the world. LitCamp redefines summer learning through innovative, research-based reading and writing lessons with an engaging and interactive summer camp approach that reduces the “summer slide.” World Read Aloud Day calls global attention to the importance of reading aloud, sharing stories, and the idea of literacy as a human right by bringing communities together across the world to read aloud and change the world."
