Jackson Lewis Welcomes Former DOL Wage and Hour Regional Administrator Alfred Perry

Jackson Lewis is pleased to welcome wage and hour specialist Alfred "Hap" Perry as a senior consultant for the firm nationally. Mr. Perry, who will be resident in the firm's Atlanta, Georgia, office, is known throughout the country as an expert in the nuances of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act, as well as the various prevailing wage statutes.

Mr. Perry served for many years as the U. S. Department of Labor Regional Administrator for the Wage and Hour Division in Atlanta. As such, he was responsible for the administration and enforcement of the FLSA, the FMLA, and other wage and hour laws and regulations in the eight states comprising the Southeast Region.

Spanning nearly 40 years, Mr. Perry's career with the Wage and Hour Division began as an investigator and then as an assistant district director in West Virginia. Subsequently, he was elevated to District Director in Virginia, and thereafter to Deputy Assistant Regional Administrator, Regional Director and finally Regional Administrator for the Southeast Region in Atlanta. In addition, Mr. Perry served on detail assignments in the Wage and Hour National Office, as Acting Assistant and Deputy Administrator, as well as Acting Wage and Hour Administrator, and in 1998-99, as the Acting Regional Administrator for the Midwest Region.

For many years, Mr. Perry had broad involvement in the development of national enforcement policies and assisted in developing materials and the implementation of training for Wage and Hour Division staff. Among his many roles, he served by selection of the Secretary of Labor on panels to reexamine the DOL, in developing implementation for new migrant labor legislation, as chair of agency-wide strategic planning task groups, and as national coordinator for all agricultural programs. He frequently has been a guest speaker at seminars conducted by organizations such as the National Personnel Association and the National Agricultural Employers' Council.

Mr. Perry is a graduate of the West Virginia Institute of Technology and Marshall University where he earned an MBA.
