MIAMI, FL – (October 24, 2011) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) has appointed Pedro Torres-Díaz,  Partner in the Miami office of Jackson Lewis, as HNBA General Counsel. This appointment to the Association’s 2011-2012 Board of Governors will require Torres-Díaz to attend to all legal matters of the Association and represent it in such legal matters. In addition, Torres-Díaz will supervise and direct the work of all Deputy General Counsels.

Supporting the firm’s belief that, in a profession dedicated to achieving justice, there is a responsibility to help ensure all individuals have equal access to legal representation, the appointment fosters a greater awareness of the diversity that the HNBA represents. “Pedro’s dedication to the HNBA is evident in his unwavering efforts to promote the advancement of Latinos within the legal community and serve as a voice for issues of concern to the Hispanic community,” said Stephanie Lewis, one of Jackson Lewis’ Pro Bono National Coordinators. “His hands-on, steadfast approach to this pro bono engagement signifies a true professional who is willing to go above and beyond the average call of the law to dedicate his time and talents to service the Hispanic community.”

An integral part of a national firm whose reputation for excellence continues to be awarded, Mr. Torres-Díaz was previously Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the HNBA, as well as the voting representative on the HNBA Board for the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, he was a Partner in the Labor and Employment Law Department of a leading law firm in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a frequent and featured speaker on labor and employment issues.

In reaction to the selection, Mr. Torres-Díaz stated, "I am honored and humbled by this appointment. I admire HNBA National President Benny President Agosto as a leader, and as a dear friend.  I am excited about the opportunity to contribute in any way I can to the success of his presidency and the Association.  My goal as General Counsel is to help take this organization to even higher levels of professionalism, achievement, and success, both for our members and for the community we serve."
