Jackson Lewis Partner Appointed to Civil Rights Advisory Commission

CHICAGO, IL, (May 25, 2011) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Chicago Partner James F. Botana is one of 19 Illinois citizens who were recently appointed members of the Illinois State Advisory Committee by the United States Commission on Civil Rights, an independent, bipartisan agency charged with monitoring federal civil rights enforcement.  The appointments are for two years and members serve without compensation.

In his new role, Mr. Botana will work with Committee members to identify and advise on local civil rights issues.

“I look forward to contributing to the Commission’s mission of appraising federal laws and policies with respect to discrimination or denial of equal protection of the laws,” says Botana.

“I have no doubt that James will be a valuable addition to the Advisory Committee,” says Jane McFetridge, Managing Partner of the firm’s Chicago office.  “His devotion for public service has been evident throughout his tenure at Jackson Lewis, and we all look forward to seeing the good works he will perform in his new role.”

Congress has directed the Commission to establish state advisory committees (SACs) in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to study issues and forward advisory reports to the Commission on matters within the agency's jurisdiction that reflect the views of the majority of SAC members producing the report.

Mr. Botana can be reached by calling 312-803-2506.
