Jackson Lewis LLP Continues Rapid Growth, Adds Two in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD. (April 11, 2011) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, announced that two prominent attorneys have joined the firm's Baltimore office, which opened in January 2010.  Joy M. Napier-Joyce, formerly with Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander, LLC, and DLA Piper, LLP, and Jennifer Curry Bowman, previously with Franklin & Prokopik, P.C., have joined the firm as Partner and Associate, respectively.

Joy Napier-Joyce counsels clients in a broad range of benefit matters, including general benefit compliance, administration of qualified retirement plans under ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, and welfare plan issues involving cafeteria plans, health plans, flexible spending accounts, group insurance products, COBRA and HIPAA.  Her practice also includes advice on non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements and other executive compensation matters, including issues related to compliance with Section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code. 

Ms. Napier-Joyce assists clients with benefits issues arising in corporate mergers and acquisitions.  She represents clients in dealings with the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor including EPCRS applications, private letter rulings, determination letter applications and plan audits.  She counsels both public and private clients on a wide array of tax and securities law issues in relation to equity-based arrangements.
 
She received her J.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Law in 1997, and her B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1994.
 
Ms. Napier-Joyce is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Board of Trustees for The Contemporary Museum. She was recently named to the 2011 list of Maryland Rising Stars in Employee Benefits/ERISA.
 
Jennifer Curry Bowman concentrates her civil litigation practice in the areas of labor and employment, general liability defense, and workers’ compensation.
 
Ms. Bowman earned her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2006, and obtained her B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2003, graduating with honors.  Prior to law school, she interned for the Honorable Marilyn Kelly of the Michigan Supreme Court in 2002 and for the Honorable John Corbet O’Meara of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in 2003. While in law school, Jennifer participated in the General Clinic and Appellate Advocacy Clinic and was awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Award in Fall of 2004 for her efforts.
 
Ms. Bowman is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Baltimore City Bar Association.  She is also an active member of and volunteer for the Women’s Law Center of Maryland.
 
Following law school, Ms. Bowman served as law clerk to the Honorable Pamela J. White of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. While serving as a clerk to Judge White, she drafted the Circuit Court’s Family Law Manual that now acts as the Bench Book for all present and future Family Division Judges and law clerks.
