Jackson Lewis Expands Midwest Practice

CINCINNATI, OH (November 16, 2009) - Jackson Lewis, one of the largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms in the United States with 600 attorneys in 42 offices, announced the opening of a Greater Cincinnati office. This new office is the 10th opened since 2008 and the second location in Ohio. With the Cincinnati office, the firm further solidifies its position as a leading labor and employment law presence in the Midwest.

Scott Carroll, an accomplished workplace law practitioner with over 15 years of experience, joined the firm as Resident Manager. He brings to Jackson Lewis significant expertise representing employers in employment litigation in state and federal courts, as well as collective bargaining, union avoidance, and advice and counsel on a wide range of issues. Mr. Carroll received his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1993 where he was a member of the Law Review. After law school he clerked for Federal Judge Sandra Beckwith in the Southern District of Ohio. Among his numerous accolades, Mr. Carroll has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer for the past five years and has contributed articles to many legal and business journals. He also serves as Vice Chair on the National Board of Directors for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, he was a Partner at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease.

David Montgomery, formerly with Keating Muething & Klekamp, and Katharine Weber, formerly with Cors and Bassett, have joined the office as Partners. Mr. Montgomery is an A.V. rated attorney who has represented employers throughout the country on a broad spectrum of employment related issues, including federal and state employment discrimination, FMLA and workplace harassment lawsuits; wage and hour claims; unfair competition and trade secret litigation; National Labor Relations Board proceeding hearings and appeals; and arbitration pursuant to union contracts and individual employment agreements. He has negotiated union contracts and represented employers in connection with union organizing drives and decertification elections and regularly provides day to day labor and employment advice, training and seminars to a broad range of clients. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America, was recently named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Ohio by Cincinnati Magazine and has been listed in Ohio SuperLawyers since 2005. Mr. Montgomery received his B.A. from Miami University in 1980 and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1984. He is admitted to practice law in California, Georgia and Ohio.

Ms. Weber has successfully assisted countless clients in handling their labor and employment issues in both Ohio and Kentucky, including litigating wrongful discharge cases; managing disability and leave of absence issues; and providing advice on day to day labor and employment issues. Ms. Weber is extremely knowledgeable in the area of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act, and brings sophisticated, yet easy to understand advice on handling and defending against sexual harassment claims. Ms. Weber is also very involved in the transportation industry and has successfully litigated several cutting-edge employment law cases which have been of great benefit to transportation industry employers. Law and Politics Magazine and Cincinnati Magazine has named Ms. Weber one of “Ohio’s Super Lawyers” in the areas of labor and employment law in six of the past seven years, most recently for its 2010 listing. Ms. Weber is a member of the Board of Directors, a Past National Chairman, and has served on the Executive Committee of the North American Transportation Employee Relations Association (NATERA), and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Employers Resource Association. Ms. Weber received her J.D. in 1989 from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law and her undergraduate degree in 1986 from the University of Kentucky.

Associates Corey Tracey and Tara Burke, both formerly with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, have also joined the office.

Patrick L. Vaccaro, firm-wide managing partner, said “For several years, we considered expanding into Greater Cincinnati to serve better our client base and to be accessible to other employers in that area as well as Kentucky. Finding the right group with the experience, reputation and skill set to help manage an office while providing additional value to our client base was elusive, that is, until we met Scott, David and Katharine who possess the near perfect balance of experience, expertise and business acumen necessary for a successful office. We are honored these distinguished attorneys decided to join our team and we look forward to expanding our presence with additional attorneys and support personnel in the months ahead.”

Mr. Carroll added, “We are excited to join one of the premier workplace law boutiques in our region and the nation. Being a part of Jackson Lewis has allowed us to expand our practice geographically and increases the scope of services we can offer our clients. We are proud to ‘plant the flag’ in the Greater Cincinnati region and contribute to the success of the organization. We are looking forward to collaborating with our colleagues in Cleveland, throughout the Midwest and beyond.”
