NEW YORK, NY (January 28, 2021) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that the firm received a 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
“We are very proud to be recognized for our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation,” said Firm Chair Kevin G. Lauri. “Our score of 100 percent is a testament to Jackson Lewis prioritizing LGBTQ+ initiatives in the workplace. We look forward to keeping this momentum going through both our policies and actions."
The results of this year’s CEI showcase how companies based in the U.S. are not only promoting LGBTQ+ -friendly workplace policies but also helping advance the cause of LGBTQ+ inclusion in workplaces abroad. The CEI rates companies and top law firms on criteria falling under four central pillars including non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility.
"Earning a CEI score of 100 percent is a significant milestone for Jackson Lewis,” said Michelle E. Phillips, co-leader of the firm’s Out Professionals and Allies in Law (OPAL) resource group. “To deliver top-notch service to our clients we must foster an inclusive environment where employees can bring their whole selves to work. We take pride in creating new programs and initiatives that create a sense of belonging within the firm and celebrate the diversity of our workforce.”
Launched in 2002, the HRC Foundation's Corporate Equality Index has become a roadmap and benchmarking tool for U.S. businesses in the evolving field of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality in the workplace. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
“From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a long overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ equality,” said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign President. “This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in the work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do—but the best business decision.”
