The NCAA Board of Governors has released a new policy governing institutional obligations to educate student-athletes and staff on sexual violence response and prevention.
Under the new policy, all colleges and universities must conduct annual education and training for student-athletes and athletics department employees. The NCAA is also requiring that each school’s president/chancellor, athletics director, and Title IX coordinator attest on an annual basis that the athletics department is fully knowledgeable of and compliant with institutional policies and processes regarding sexual violence.
Jackson Lewis P.C. is a leading provider of training programs to institutions on legal and regulatory requirements in such areas as preventing sexual violence, sexual harassment and all forms of discrimination. We can help your institution meet the March 15, 2018, deadline for its compliance with the new NCAA sexual violence policy by designing a customized training program tailored to your school’s student-athletes and athletics department staff at reduced, flat fee rates. Our professionals are available to conduct multi-media, interactive training sessions. We also can provide additional advice and counsel to university officials regarding sexual violence policies and procedures as requested.
Training sessions include:
- How to recognize and prevent acts of sexual violence and appropriately respond to and report sexual violence pursuant to your school’s established protocol;
- What constitutes lawful and distinguishable consent in your school’s legal jurisdiction;
- Education of athletics coaches, staff, and volunteer assistants on how to identify the early warning signs among their student-athletes and to develop competency in preventing and responding to sexual violence;
- Review of current institutional codes, policies, and procedures related to sexual violence reporting, investigations, and hearings;
- Review of applicable state laws and legal standards governing sexual violence;
- Review of additional campus resources, including counseling, peer support, student health and wellness, campus safety, police, chaplains, and off-campus confidential resources.
