Jackson Lewis Attorneys Selected to Speak at Puerto Rico SHRM Convention

SAN JUAN, PR (August 26, 2015) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Shareholders Juan Felipe Santos and Paul DeCamp have been selected to speak at the Puerto Rico Society of Human Resource Management Convention, to be held on September 17-18 at the Hotel El Conquistador, A Waldorf-Astoria Resort. This is one of the biggest conventions in Puerto Rico, attended by hundreds.

Mr. DeCamp is a Shareholder in the Washington, D.C. Region office of Jackson Lewis and heads the firm’s national Wage and Hour Practice Group. Mr. Santos is a Shareholder in the firm’s Puerto Rico office. Together they will address The Evolution of Wage and Hour Laws: past, present, and future.

The session will focus on two main topics: (1) how to determine what is compensable time as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision and the ever-changing nature of technology at the workplace; and (2) how to prepare for upcoming amendments to federal wage and hour regulations. As former Administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, Mr. DeCamp has deep understanding of the evolution and historical background of wage and hour laws, along with practical insight regarding how they currently apply in many scenarios that were not envisioned when first enacted.

Among other recent developments, the Wage and Hour Division has issued proposed amendments to the white-collar overtime exemption regulations, which will impact all employers and can affect their operational sustainability. It is estimated that these amendments may become effective by mid-2016. Mr. DeCamp and Mr. Santos will provide general guidance on how to prepare before the regulations are enacted. They will also discuss Puerto Rico laws as they relate to wage and hour issues.

Jackson Lewis’ Puerto Rico office will host a special “Meet and Greet” for friends and clients of the firm on September 16, 2015. Attendees will get the chance to have one-on-one with Attorneys and get an inside look into the Wage and Hour arena.  To find out more about this event, please visit our website at www.jacksonlewis.com/events
