Jackson Lewis Attorneys Participate in Seton Hall University School of Law EFCA Debate

NEWARK, NJ (March 11, 2009) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing employment law firms, announced that attorneys from the firm’s Morristown, NJ and White Plains, NY offices will be participating in a public debate covering all sides of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) hosted by Seton Hall University’s School of Law on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

The event, “The Employee Free Choice Act: Will America Prosper or Suffer?” will be moderated by Seton Hall University Law Professor Timothy Glynn, a national authority on employment law. Jackson Lewis Partners Martin F. Payson and Jeffrey J. Corradino will debate union attorney and EFCA advocate Bennet Zurofsky, former Managing Partner of Reitman Parsonnet, PC, and a colleague in an open dialogue regarding the proposed legislation.

EFCA, which was re-introduced to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives this week and which is considered “Priority One” legislation for organized labor, would replace the current secret ballot system with one of “card checks.” The proposed legislation has been a controversial topic since its initial introduction. If enacted, EFCA will represent the single greatest change to American labor law since the enactment of the National Labor Relations Act in 1935.

“We are honored to participate in this EFCA debate, one of several that Jackson Lewis attorneys are participating in at law schools across the East Coast,” said Morristown Managing Partner Richard Cino. “We have a terrific relationship with Seton Hall University’s School of Law, with whom we participate in a national scholarship program, and we look forward to a good turnout as our attorneys discuss this extremely pressing piece of legislation that is currently working its way through Congress.”

The debate, sponsored by Seton Hall University’s School of Law, will take place from 4-6 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of Seton Hall Law School. It is open to the public but advance reservations are requested.
