Jackson Lewis Attorneys Named Among Nation's Most Powerful

WHITE PLAINS, NY (October 31, 2011) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, announced firm-wide Managing Partner Patrick L. Vaccaro, Detroit Managing Partner Maurice G. Jenkins, Las Vegas Partner Gary C. Moss and New Orleans Managing Partner René E. Thorne were named to Human Resource Executive magazine’s list of Most Powerful Employment Attorneys for 2011.  These attorneys were selected on the basis of evaluations by clients and peers, as well as reporting by Lawdragon, a Los Angeles-based legal ranking and news service that provides expert analysis about lawyers and judges.

"Maurice, Gary, René and I are honored to be included in this prestigious list," said Vaccaro. "At Jackson Lewis we are lucky to practice with the country’s best labor and employment lawyers, any number of whom could have been included on this list."

This is the fourth edition of the "Nation's Most Powerful Employment Attorneys," which began as a guide to the nation’s Top 50 employment lawyers.  The list now features 200 lawyers, including leading corporate-side lawyers and specialists in five different categories: immigration, traditional labor law, employee benefits and ERISA.  Those practitioners selected for inclusion are among the best employment lawyers in their city or region, with substantial professional achievements and contributions to the profession. In general, they have more than 20 years of practice experience, hold leadership positions in their firm and/or local bar association, have significant “wins” in class actions or other large-value trials (or the transactional equivalent), and receive recommendations from clients familiar with their expertise.

Prior to assuming the role of firm-wide Managing Partner, Patrick Vaccaro served as Vice Chair of Jackson Lewis, headed the firm’s marketing and business development function and, for 25 years, was Managing Partner of the firm's White Plains, New York office. In his more than 45 years of practice, Mr. Vaccaro has represented employers in virtually every conceivable type of labor and employment law matter.  He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for over twenty consecutive years; named by Westchester Magazine as the “Best Labor and Employment Lawyer in Westchester County, New York”; listed multiple times in New York Super Lawyers Magazine and named by Corporate Counsel Magazine in their “Best Employment Lawyers” section.

Maurice Jenkins has practiced labor and employment law for more than 29 years and currently serves as Managing Partner of the firm’s Detroit office. He has litigated labor and employment cases in various states around the country, and has extensive experience in preventive counseling with respect to legal compliance, labor issues arising from corporate reorganizations, and wrongful discharge and discrimination issues.   He has been selected for inclusion in Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers.

Gary Moss has more than 41 years of experience representing management in all areas of labor and employment law, including federal and state court employment discrimination and wrongful discharge litigation, collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, wage and hour matters, and labor and employment law issues relating to sales, mergers, acquisitions, shutdowns and bankruptcies. He has extensive experience providing legal advice to  clients regarding strikes and other forms of labor disputes and union organizing.  Mr. Moss has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and recognized in LRI’s “Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States.”

René Thorne coordinates the firm’s Complex ERISA Litigation practice and serves as Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis’ New Orleans office.    Her practice covers the full range of employee benefit litigation matters, including representation of employers, plans, plan fiduciaries and trustees.  In 2009, Ms. Thorne was retained as an expert by the Internal Revenue Service to opine on the merits of an underlying, complex ERISA breach of fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction case.  She regularly lectures and writes on numerous ERISA-related topics.  Ms. Thorne has been selected for inclusion in Chambers USA, Louisiana Super Lawyers and  Best Lawyers in America.
