Jackson Lewis Attorney Participates In EFCA Debate At Pace Law School

WHITE PLAINS, NY (April 9, 2009) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing employment law firms, announced that White Plains Partner Martin F. Payson, one of the most prominent labor attorneys practicing in Westchester County, will participate in a public debate addressing important aspects of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) hosted by Pace Law School on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.   This is the third EFCA debate that Mr. Payson has participated in at local law schools, including Seton Hall University School of Law and Hofstra University School of Law.

The event, “The Employee Free Choice Act: How will this Change the Law and Impact on our Economic Recovery – Will this Create or Cost Jobs?” will be moderated by Pace Law School Professor, Randolph M. McLaughlin.  Mr. Payson will debate Hanan Kolko, Esq., an attorney with Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein P.C. in an open dialogue regarding the proposed legislation.

EFCA, which was re-introduced to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives last month, is considered “Priority One” legislation for organized labor, and would replace the current secret ballot system with one of “card checks.”  The proposed legislation has been a controversial topic since its initial introduction.  If enacted, EFCA will represent the single greatest change to American labor law since the enactment of the National Labor Relations Act in 1935.

The debate, which has been organized by the Pace Law School Center for Continuing Legal Education, is co-sponsored by the Pace Law School Alumni Association.  It will take place in the Robert B. Fleming Moot Court Room at 6:30 pm.  It is open to the public and the Pace community but registration is recommended.  CLE credit is available.  Please contact Linda Maccarrone at 914.422.4062 for registration information.

Jackson Lewis EFCA experts will be available at the event to discuss EFCA ramifications; please use the below contact information to obtain a media pass to the event.
