Jackson Lewis Adds Attorney in San Juan, Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (June 4, 2013) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Maralyssa Álvarez-Sánchez has joined the firm’s San Juan, Puerto Rico office as Of Counsel.  Ms. Álvarez-Sánchez joins Jackson Lewis from McConnell Valdés LLC, where she was a Partner in the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group.  

The firm’s San Juan office – its first outside the continental United States – opened in January 2013 with Partner Sara Colón-Acevedo and Of Counsel Juan Felipe Santos, as well as Partner Pedro Torres-Díaz and Zahira D. Díaz-Vázquez, who split their time between Jackson Lewis’ Miami and Orlando offices, respectively.

Ms. Álvarez-Sánchez counsels employers on compliance with state and federal employment laws and defends clients in all stages of litigation in discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, reasonable accommodation, unjust dismissal and leave-related claims in federal and state judicial and administrative forums.  She has successfully represented employers before the Puerto Rico Courts of First Instance and Appeals and the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  Ms. Álvarez-Sánchez also advises clients on employment matters related to the establishment of operations in Puerto Rico, the administration of health and welfare benefit plans, and labor relations issues.
