Beverly Garofalo Named Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis Hartford Office

HARTFORD, Conn., (Sept 22, 2008) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest growing workplace law firms, has announced that Beverly Garofalo  has been named Managing Partner of its Hartford office. Formerly a partner with the Hartford office of Thelen LLP, Ms. Garofalo joined Jackson Lewis in May of this year.  She will be taking over the position from William J. Anthony, who served as Managing Partner of the Hartford office for nearly nine years during which the office more than doubled to its current size of 20 attorneys.

“I am delighted to accept the position of Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis’ Hartford Office.  Not only do we have talented attorneys, significant clients and a pleasant work environment, but we also have incredible diversity in this office,” says Ms. Garofalo. “Jackson Lewis is a dynamic firm with a strong culture.  The Hartford office has played an important role in the firm’s growth and profitability and I look forward to the rewards and challenges this position will no doubt hold for me.”

“Our office is very pleased that Beverly will be taking over as Managing Partner,” says Mr. Anthony.  “Beverly is well-known and respected in the Hartford legal community and she is an excellent attorney and a strong leader -- all important attributes of a managing partner.”  Mr. Anthony will continue serving as the firm’s National Coordinator for its Class Action Practice Group and the Regional Coordinator for the firm’s New England and Virginia offices.

“Jackson Lewis recognizes valuable talent when we see it, and we certainly recognized it in Beverly,” adds Patrick L. Vaccaro, firm wide managing partner.  “Throughout her career she has earned an impressive amount of trust from her clients and colleagues, and to be named Managing Partner so shortly after joining the firm says a lot about her strong managerial skills.”

Ms. Garofalo has extensive experience litigating employment cases on behalf of employers in state and federal court and regularly advises employers on a wide range of employment issues, including sexual harassment; discrimination; accommodating disabled employees; family and medical leave laws; HIPAA; privacy; wage and hour laws; hiring, disciplining and terminating employees; downsizing and reductions-in-force; classifying employees and independent contractors; employment, non-competition and confidentiality agreements; mergers and acquisitions; and outsourcing.

She has written and spoken extensively on employment law issues and is on the board of editors of the Corporate Counselor newsletter.  Beverly has received numerous accolades, including, most recently, being recognized as a leader in the area of labor and employment law by Chambers USA in 2008, as among the "Best Lawyers in America" for 2008 and was also named a 2008 Connecticut Super Lawyer and a 2008 New England Super Lawyer.

Ms. Garofalo graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1991.  Following graduation, she clerked for Chief Justice Ellen Ashe Peters of the Connecticut Supreme Court.
