For the past few years, California’s comprehensive privacy law known as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) included important exemptions for personal information of employees, applicants and contractors, as well as for certain business representatives. The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), which amended the CCPA, extended the exemptions through December 31, 2022. While many expected the exemptions would be further extended, the current California legislative session ended on August 31, 2022 without a bill to do so.
The failure to get extensions across the legislative finish line leaves CCPA-covered businesses with not much time to begin expanding their compliance efforts. Join Jackson Lewis P.C. attorneys to discuss what employers should be doing to get ready, including being prepared to respond to the requests of employees, applicants and family members concerning their rights under the CCPA.
Topics
- A reminder about whether the CCPA/CPRA applies to your business
